K+S KALI GmbH, a German company with a long tradition in potash mining and one of the internationally leading potash producers, might distribute and market Kalium-produced Sulphate of Potash (SoP) fertilizer in Australia and around the world. The Australian company Kalium Lakes Ltd (KLL) is seeking to develop a sub-surface brine deposit to produce SOP product via an evaporation and processing operation. Kalium is trialing this proposed method for producing SoP.
K+S and Kalium have reached a deal on the terms of an initial 10-year deal on product off-take, distribution and sales. Under the agreement, K&S will take all of KLL’s expected stage one production of 75,000 tons of SoP annually and will distribute it throughout its existing distribution center globally. The German company will also provide its product know-how and technical support to Kalium during the design, construction and commissioning of its Beyondie SoP project located 160 kilometers south east of Newman.
K+S that was founded in 1889 in Kassel, Germany, is listed on the Frankfurt stock exchange with a market capitalization of $5.1 billion and employs 15,000 around the world. K+S is one of top potash manufacturers globally and is also the world’s largest salt producer. The company already markets a range of SoP and Muriate of Potash (MoP) fertilizer products for agriculture and horticulture.
K+S’ products range includes some products that are spread dry or sprayed in solution for broadacre farming applications and others that are meant for crop nutrients for commercial greenhouse fruit and vegetable production. The final deal between K+S and Kalium is still to be signed depending on a few conditions that need to be met. These include finalizing due diligence, completing a favorable bankable feasibility study and obtaining all approvals and tenure.
