HEVO AMMONIA MOROCCO project, the north African country’s largest announced green hydrogen and green ammonia project to date, has been unveiled at an event in Rabat. It is anticipated that the project will be jointly developed by Fusion Fuel Green, a green hydrogen technology company, and Consolidated Contractors Group S.A.L. (CCC), a global construction company, with the offtake of the green ammonia likely managed by Vitol. The development of the first phase of the project is expected to begin in 2022 following the completion of a feasibility study. When fully commissioned, the project is expected to produce 183 000 tpy of green ammonia and abate 280 000 tpy of CO2. Fusion Fuel expects to supply the technology to produce the 31 000 tpy of green hydrogen needed for the project. Fusion Fuel has created a off-grid solar-to-hydrogen generator, called the HEVO SOLAR, that allows it to produce emissions-free hydrogen at highly competitive costs in regions with strong solar irradiation. CCC would serve as the general construction partner for the project.
ACRON GROUP, a global Russian mineral fertilizer producer, has launched preparations for a large-scale overhaul of four urea units at its Novgorod-based facility at a total cost of US$92 million. With completion scheduled for 2024, the project will increase the total capacity of urea units 1-4 by 55%, from 2000 tpd to 3100 tpd, boosting annual output by 390 000 t. With Stamicarbon having been selected as the basic design and technology licensor, the investment project will also include installing a new urea synthesis shop. „Acron’s efforts to create and expand capacity are in line with the ESG strategy, which is aimed at conserving natural resources and increasing equipment efficiency,“ Chairman of Acron’s Board of Directors Alexander Popov commented. „In addition to improved technology, our efforts include environmental protection and environmental safety enhancement. Urea production involves the use of carbon dioxide, and the project will reduce direct CO2 emissions by 270 000 tpy.“ Today, the Acron facility in Veliky Novgorod has six urea units in operation. Once all planned upgrades are complete, the Group’s Novgorod-based facility will be able to produce over 2.3 million t of urea annually, making Acron the largest urea facility in Europe.
THYSSENKRUPP FERTILIZER TECHNOLOGY, the German company headquartered in Dortmund and a subsidiary of Thyssenkrupp Uhde, has signed a contract with Abu Qir Fertilizers Co., for the revamp of their Abu Qir 3 urea granulation plant in Alexandria, Egypt. Abu Qir Fertilizers and Chemicals Company is one of the largest producers of nitrogen fertilizers in Egypt and the Middle East that produces about 50% of the Egyptian Nitrogen Fertilizers. For the revamped plant, which is planned to be operating at 100% capacity in 2025, Thyssenkrupp Fertilizer Technology will supply the licence, the Process Design Package and proprietary equipment. The UFT® Fluid Bed Granulation will increase the nameplate capacity from 2000 tpd of urea granules to 2500 tpd and more, while the horizontal cross flow scrubbing system will minimise urea dust and ammonia emissions. “With this expansion, Abu Qir Fertilizers will reinforce its position as a leading nitrogen fertilizer producer in Egypt. We chose Thyssenkrupp again to use the most up-to-date technology,“ Saad Ibrahim Abu El-Maati Hassan, Chairman and Managing Director of Abu Qir Fertilizers, commented. „Their state of the art process and know-how give a significant boost to our plant capacity while simultaneously lowering the power consumption per produced ton of granular urea and reducing direct emissions at the same time.”
