The OCP Group was recently the subject of two new ratings by the international agencies Vigeo Eiris and Sustainalytics, respectively specialized in the evaluation of sustainability performance and in the identification of ESG risk levels (Environment, Social and Governance), rewarding its sustainability performance. According to Vigeo Eiris, OCP Group –the global leader in the phosphate sector – ranked 3rd in the world and 1st among companies in emerging countries out of a total of 206 international companies in the mining and metals industry. Thus, the Moroccan giant obtained the Top Performers distinction from the rating agency, confirming its long-term involvement and leadership in sustainable development.
In the Vigeo Eiris rating, the assessment of OCP Group’s general performance has clearly improved since 2019, with its score having increased by 27 points, which is “the result of the Group’s systemic progress on related issues. in the areas studied by the agency, namely the environment, human resources, human rights, community involvement, business behavior and governance.” Indeed, while the maximum score reached is 76/100 for all industries combined, the rating agency awarded the OCP Group a score of 66/100, corresponding to an advanced level of performance globally, notes the press release, noting that the assessment of the participating companies is carried out based on their public information and the details they provide in response to the agency’s questions. In this respect, the phosphate giant is considered “proactive” with regard to the information disseminated and it has also been ranked high in terms of the reporting and disclosure efforts undertaken by the Group.
As for the assessment by the Sustainalytics agency, which has been evaluating the OCP Group in an unsolicited manner for several years, focusing on its management strength and impact on the “ESG risk” component, it saw the OCP‘s „ESG risk“ component reduced by half to reach a score of only 27.4 points. This risk rating is made up of two dimensions, namely the industry’s level of exposure to “ESG risks” as well as the level of control of said risks. The Sustainalytics report, in turn, enabled the Moroccan phosphate giant to place itself on the podium of the best performers among the 53 companies evaluated in the “Agricultural Chemicals” category, it is stressed at the company level. Aware of the imperative to reconcile economic growth and preservation of resources, OCP Group has been implementing for years a major project of sustainable transformation integrating sustainability into its overall strategy.
