GENSOURCE POTASH Corp., a Saskatchewan-based fertilizer development company focused on sustainable potash production, has recently announced the successful completion of the next major milestone for its Tugaske Project. Gensource has now received approval of its Development Permit Application for a potash mine from the Rural Municipality (RM) of Huron No. 223, whose offices are in the Village of Tugaske, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Gensource has worked closely with the RM over the past several years, spanning the initial exploration work on its potash lease covering the area, to the tangible development work on the project, a site being chosen and surface land being optioned – all making the project ready for construction. Earlier in Summer 2020, the company completed an application for a Development Permit and submitted it to the RM for consideration. The company has now reported that the permit was approved by RM Council at its August meeting under existing RM Bylaws, opening the way to construct its first potash module within the boundaries of the municipality.
KALIUM LAKES Ltd (KLL) has recently announced the completion of non-process infrastructure for the Beyondie SOP Project (BSOPP), Western Australia, including multiple facilities that are being utilised to support current construction works, future production and operational requirements. “Completion of this infrastructure is a significant milestone, as these facilities are crucial for the completion of construction and will continue to be utilised during ongoing operations,“ Rudolph van Niekerk, the KLL’s CEO, commented. The non-process infrastructure for the BSOPP include the fully functional and operational village with a total of 216 rooms, waste water treatment facilities, potable water treatment facilities, medical facilities, dry and wet mess facilities, a fully equipped gym, laundry facilities, a village office and vehicle parking area. Infrastructure adjacent to the SOP purification plant is currently also under construction and the works also include and upgrade to the communications infrastructure that is now connected to the Telstra backbone, providing download speeds of up to 50 Mbps via radio links to the project site.
DANAKALI Ltd has recently provided a project update of the Colluli Potash Project, located in Eritrea, East Africa. The project is 100% owned by the Colluli Mining Share Company (CMSC), a 50/50 joint venture between Danakali and Eritrean National Mining Corp. (ENAMCO). The company has advised that EPCM phase 1 and 2, which relate to the process plant and associated infrastructure work, have been completed. These phases provide greater certainty of scope definition following the third-party review by DRA Global. In the EPCM phases 1 and 2, a number of optimisation opportunities were identified, including in the WITA area, which will be carried out based on a trade-off study that has confirmed the use of a Beach Wells intake method is preferred in lieu of a subsea intake pipeline. This optimisation is beneficial to the environment, minimising risk to the subsea and coastal habitats by avoiding onshore pipeline construction and offshore installation. Furthermore, the design eliminates chlorine dosing and improves the quality of the discharge water as the pre-treatment feedwater requires less chemicals.
